Team USA Goaltender Commits to Boston College

Goaltender Thatcher Demko of Team USA has committed to play hockey at Boston College following his USHL career.

The recently turned 17-year-old has posted a 4-2-0 record in six appearances for Team USA’s Under-18 squad during USHL play this season, including winning three of his last four starts.  Demko first broke into the USHL last season as a member of the Omaha Lancers and recorded a 9-3-0 record with a 2.87 GAA.  The San Diego, California native stopped all 22 shots he faced in the 7-0 win against Cedar Rapids on February 17^th, 2012, earning his first USHL career shutout.  He was just 16 at the time and became the youngest goaltender in the USHL Tier 1 era (2002-present) to record a shutout.

Demko joins three of his current teammates who are also committed to Boston College – Steven Santini, Scott Savage, and Alex Tuch.  Six other USHL players also have plans to attend the school; Chris Birdsall (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Adam Gilmour (Muskegon Lumberjacks), Matt Gaudreau (Omaha Lancers), Conor McGlynn (Sioux City Musketeers), Ian McCoshen (Waterloo Black Hawks), and Austin Cangelosi (Youngstown Phantoms).

Boston College is a member of Hockey East and the Eagles are the defending NCAA champions.  A total of 11 USHL alumni are on the team’s roster this season; Bill Arnold (Team USA), Parker Milner (Waterloo Black Hawks), Pat Mullane (Omaha Lancers), Patrick Wey (Waterloo Black Hawks), Steven Whitney (Omaha Lancers), Johnny Gaudreau (Dubuque Fighting Saints), Quinn Smith (Youngstown Phantoms), Michael Sit (Chicago Steel), Teddy Doherty (Dubuque Fighting Saints), Michael Matheson (Dubuque Fighting Saints), and Brendan Silk (Team USA).
