KEARNEY, Neb. – Storm head coach and general manager Josh Hauge announced the club will add forward Trevor Mingoia to the roster for the remainder of the 2012-13 season on Wednesday.
Mingoia,
who entered this season as a sophomore at Union College in the Eastern
Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) of the NCAA, will give the team
added depth and talent as a forward with collegiate hockey experience.
The
Fairport, New York native appeared in 18 games with Union last season
during the team’s run to the Frozen Four, totaling three goals and three
assists.
“At
this time of the season it’s hard to pick up guys that have the numbers
and the pedigree he has,” Hauge said. “For us to be able to pick up a
player that we think can come in and play in our top couple lines right
away, it’s something we had to do. We’re not expecting him to turn
everything around for us, but we think he’s a leader with skill and he
can help us.”
Before
Union, Mingoia played at the Berkshire School and led the team in
scoring with 20 goals and 28 assists while serving as team captain
during the 2010-11 season.
Mingoia
is expected to be in the lineup and will wear number 28 when Tri-City
hits the road this weekend. The Storm will be the first opponent to play
in the Ralston Arena against the Omaha Lancers on Friday night at 7:05
p.m. The team will then travel to Sioux Falls on Saturday night to take
on the Stampede, also at 7:05 p.m.
