Steelheads’ Smoskowitz Player of Week

Press Release

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Dylan Smoskowitz of the Mississauga Steelheads is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 14 after scoring five goals and two assists for seven points in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-5.

Smoskowitz helped the Steelheads win three straight games beginning Thanksgiving Monday in a 4-3 overtime win over the Brampton Battalion.  In that contest he picked up his third goal of the season which opened the scoring on the power play and later added an assist setting up Riley Brace’s game-tying shorthanded goal with just 31 seconds to play in the third period.  Smoskowitz finished his week with back-to-back first star performances including Friday night in a 3-2 win over the Ottawa 67’s where he scored two goals, and on Saturday when he scored twice and added an assist in a 4-3 win over the Erie Otters.

Smoskowitz, a 19-year-old from Richmond Hill, ON, is playing in his third OHL season and first with the Steelheads following two seasons with the Barrie Colts.  In just five games with the Steelheads so far this season he has seven goals and three assists for 10 points.

Also considered for the award this week was fellow Steelhead Riley Brace who also picked up seven points in three games scoring once with six assists, and Tyler Graovac of the Ottawa 67’s who scored four goals and two assists for six points in three games.  In goal, JP Anderson of the Sarnia Sting went 3-0-0-0 with a goals-against-average of 1.92 and save percentage of .921.
