Lincoln Stars rookie goaltender Michael Bitzer has committed to play collegiate hockey at Bemidji State University following his USHL career.
Bitzer has won both of his starts this season to help the Stars remain
unbeaten. He has compiled a 1.50 goals-against-average and .950 save
percentage over those two appearances. In his USHL debut, the
18-year-old made 28 saves in the 5-2 victory over Des Moines. The
Moorhead, Minnesota native was selected by Lincoln in the 2012 USHL
Entry Draft. Last year, he earned the Frank Brimsek Award as the top
high school senior goaltender in the state of Minnesota when he posted
an 18-9-2 record and 2.30 GAA to help Moorhead High reach the state
tournament.
Three other current USHL player are committed to play college hockey at Bemidji State University – Phillip Marinaccio and Charlie O’Connor of the Chicago Steel and Brendan Harms of the Fargo Force.
Bemidji State is a member of the WCHA and has a total of 10 USHL alumni
on the Beavers roster this season; James Hansen (Waterloo Black Hawks),
David Boehm (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Jake Areshenko (Fargo Force),
Ben Kinne (Sioux City Musketeers), Sam Windle (Des Moines Buccaneers),
Danny Mattson (Youngstown Phantoms), Brad Robbins (Sioux City
Musketeers), Radoslav Illo (Tri-City Storm), Matt Prapavessis (Lincoln
Stars), and Mitch Cain (Des Moines Buccaneers).
