SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs are very pleased to announce an additional local partner contributing to the Sea Dogs Academy.

Afterburn Performance is owned and operated by Saint John native Terry Blizzard, and has been involved in training the Sea Dogs for over a year.

“Our goal in moving the Sea Dogs Academy forward is to offer not only on-ice hockey training, but also offer training on health and fitness,” says Sea Dogs President Wayne Long. “Involving Afterburn and Terry Blizzard brings us closer to the full package offering.”

Blizzard’s work has including the strength and conditioning routines of Florida Panthers’ third overall NHL Entry Draft choice and Sea Dogs captain Jonathan Huberdeau as well as Washington Capitals prospect Stanislav Galiev.

“Terry has helped me take my game to the next level with his Strength and conditioning program. It is a must in every hockey player’s training regime,” says Huberdeau.

Blizzard has been in the Health & Wellness Industry for twelve years and has over 15,000 hours experience. This experience includes the responsibility as the Sea Dogs’ Strength and Conditioning Consultant which started during the 2011-2012 season.

During the past twelve years, Terry has helped countless clients achieve their goals in weight loss, weight gain, controlling cholesterol, controlling high blood pressure, dealing with diabetes and helping people balance their everyday lifestyle.

Through his experience with past companies and his own clients, Terry has come up with a successful way of helping people achieve a healthy lifestyle.

“The all-in healthy, hockey lifestyle is what we are ultimately trying to achieve with this program,” says Sea Dogs Academy instructor Stacy Smallman. “Adding Terry to the mix has brought us closer to our goal of an all-inclusive elite hockey academy package.”

This move will give children from IP 2 all the way to Bantam an idea of what it takes to keep an elite fitness level and to see what they should do to be as fit as possible for the game of hockey. They will also be learning essential skills to help them improve their game on and off the ice.

“It’s great to train people like Jonathan who has a passion for working hard and improving his overall game,” says Blizzard. “Huberdeau has been working hard since he has arrived here and has been getting stronger and faster even just in the last eight weeks”

The kids in the Sea Dogs Academy will also receive one free session at Afterburn Performance as well as a consultation on the first day of camp.
