Press Release
Dubuque Fighting Saints defenseman Kyle McKenzie has committed to play hockey next season at Providence College.
McKenzie has begun his second full season in the USHL with the Saints
after appearing in 55 regular season games last year, recording seven
assists and posting a plus-eight rating. The 19-year-old also played in
five playoff games for Dubuque last season. The Pennsylvania native
first got USHL experience when he joined the Saints for four games
during the 2010-11 season.
"It's unbelievable," said McKenzie. "Besides the $15 million dollar
renovation they are getting for a new rink, the coaching staff is great.
The campus was unreal. It was a great group of guys. It is nice to
know you are wanted by someone like Providence and that was a big reason
I committed there. It’s also nice to know where I am going, but for
now I am focused on this year and bringing the Clark Cup back to
Dubuque."
Des Moines Buccaneers goaltender Nick Ellis is also
committed to the school. Providence College is a member of Hockey East
and has seven USHL alumni on the Friars roster this season; John Gilmour
(Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Mark Adams (Chicago Steel), Tom Parisi
(Team USA), Stefan Demopoulos (Omaha Lancers), Nick Saracino (Cedar
Rapids RoughRiders), Alex Velischek (Sioux City Musketeers), and Jon
Gillies (Indiana Ice).
