Rivermen forward Campbell commits to River Hawks

Press Release

The Langley Rivermen are pleased to announce the commitment of Evan Campbell to the UMass Lowell River Hawks for 2013 or 2014.

The Port Coquitlam native has started fast with three goals and four assists in three games. He missed the start of the regular season due to a lower body injury, but has looked strong since returning.

“We are extremely happy for Evan on his commitment to UMass Lowell and is very deserving of this,” said Rivermen Head Coach and General Manager Bobby Henderson. "He had a rough start going down with an injury in training camp, but has worked very hard to get back in the lineup and we are seeing just a glimpse of to what is to come with the start he has had so far.”

The university is located in Lowell, Massachusetts and the men’s ice hockey program plays in the NCAA Division I Hockey East Association.

“Evan focused a lot of his time this off-season into training and it’s the hardest he has worked and even put on 15 pounds to show for it,” continued Henderson. "He has gone through a lot of adversity in his young career so far and we believe the sky is the limit for this kid.”

Since coming to Langley last November, Campbell has received a lot of attention from NCAA scouts to the pro ranks with his size, speed, skill and work ethic.

“He has shown a lot of character and professionalism from all the attention he has been getting and did not let it get to his head,” Henderson said about his right winger, “he maintained his focus on and off the ice and let the process take care of itself.”

Campbell is the fourth Rivermen player on the roster to earn a scholarship.
