RENOUF NAMED SW PLAYER-OF-THE-MONTH

Press Release

The OJHL announced today that Oakville Blades forward Jonah Renouf has been named the Gongshow Gear South-West Conference Player-of-the-Month for September after jumping out to the early OJHL scoring lead with 22 points in 10 games played.

The 18-year old has been the key cog in leading the Blades to a first place lead in the South Division standings, recording seven goals and a league-leading 15 assists to pace the club’s offensive attack. A power play specialist, Renouf also leads the league with 10 power play assists and 12 of his 22 points have come with the man advantage. Teamed with twin brother Nathan, the two currently sit 1-2 in OJHL scoring with Jonah sitting on an eight game point scoring streak, having recorded points in nine of his ten September contests. Highlights of Renouf’s month included a five point outing and two four point games, as the Blades posted a 6-1-1 record to also sit atop the OJHL standings.

Renouf was truly humbled when informed of the honour, “After watching the Gongshow Gear Player-of-the-Month award go to so many great players last year, such as Christian Finch and Devin Shore, I feel very honoured to be in the position I'm in now. The award means a lot to me, as it proves how much effort I put in to improving from last season’s results.”

“I've been able to get off to a good start this season due to the preparation and good fortune of being on a team like the Oakville Blades. The hard work and effort me and my brother put into our off season at BTNL (Beyond The Next Level) has paid off as we have become quicker and less containable then we were last year,” said Renouf. “After a solid start by our young team, by getting onto the top 20 teams in Canada list by the CJHL, I hope to continue the ascent up those rankings and get more wins with the Blades. I aspire to make Team Canada East and prove myself to the critics and doubters.”

Blades General Manager Duncan Harvey was quick to credit Renouf for a tremendous first half of the season, “Jonah and the rest of his teammates have been fantastic so far this season. Jonah has shown great leadership on and off the ice which has made him one of our leaders. We are thrilled to have a young man like Jonah Renouf as part of the Oakville Blades organization.

Bench boss Kevin Gomes echoed Harvey’s comments and discussed his star forward’s intangibles, “Jonah’s numbers speak for themselves. He is gifted offensively. What impresses me about him is his willingness to battle in the dirty areas of the ice. If he gets knocked down, he's up so quick, it's like it never happened. He leads by his high compete level.”

Shane Conacher of the Burlington Cougars was runner-up to Renouf as the OJHL South-West Conference Player-of-the-Month. Conacher posted 15 points in 9 games played to lead the Cougars, including a league-leading nine goals on the month.
