Press Release
The Vancouver Giants Hockey Club is
excited to announce the second and final special guest that will be in
attendance when the Giants host Game 5 of the 2012 Subway Canada/Russia Super Series on Wednesday, November 14.
On this night, the greatest rivalry in hockey returns to the Pacific Coliseum as TEAM WHL, comprised of Canadian World Junior eligible players, takes on their counterparts from TEAM RUSSIA. Last week, Russian legend Igor Larionov was announced as the first special guest, representing Russia and marking the 25th Anniversary of the 1987 Canada Cup. Today, the organization is proud to reveal the second guest, representing Canada.
He
played a pivotal role in the 1972 Summit Series and will return to the
building in which one of the series’ most memorable moments occurred. At
the conclusion of Game 4 here in Vancouver, Phil Esposito
gave a passionate speech that rallied his team and the nation. The
2-time Stanley Cup Champion and 5-time Art Ross Trophy winner will join
us to represent Canada once again, and help us celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the 1972 Summit Series.
“Phil’s speech at the end of Game 4 was one of the most iconic moments in Canadian sports history” says Giants Majority Owner, Ron Toigo.
“And the fact it took place here at the Coliseum, and it’s the 40-year
anniversary of the series, we just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to
bring Phil to town. It’s going to be a special moment when he’s
introduced.”
