LIPON NAMED DENNY'S WHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CALGARY, AB. - The Western Hockey League announced today that Kamloops Blazers’ forward JC Lipon is the Denny’s WHL Player of the Week. 

Lipon collected seven points, scoring three goals and four assists to go with a +4 rating, in two games over the past week helping the Blazers to a 2-0-0-0 record. 

On Friday, October 5, the Blazers hosted the Seattle Thunderbirds at the Interior Savings Centre in Kamloops.  Lipon scored one goal, added three assists and was named the game’s 2nd Star in the Blazers’ 7-2 triumph over the Thunderbirds.  The next night, Saturday, October 6, the Medicine Hat Tigers were in Kamloops to face the Blazers.  Lipon scored two goals, one assist and was named the game’s 1st Star in the Blazers’ 4-1 win over the Tigers.

Lipon currently sits 4th among all WHL Scorers with 12 points (three goals, nine assists) in six games played thus far this season.  The Blazers currently sit second in the WHL B.C. Division and have yet to experience a regulation loss with a 5-0-0-1 record for 11 points.

A 19-year-old from Regina, SK, Lipon is in his fourth full season with the Kamloops Blazers.  Originally a list player by the Blazers, Lipon has gone on to appear in 193 career WHL games, gathering 28 goals, 83 assists for a total of 111 points.
 
The WHL has also nominated Eetu Laurikainen of the Swift Current Broncos for the CHL Goaltender of the Week Award.  Laurikainenposted a 2-0-0-0 record this past week, stopping 71 of 73 shots faced for a 0.973 save-percentage and 1.00 goals-against average.  Laurikainen, a 19-year-old from Jyvaskyla, Finland, was selected 20th overall in the 2012 CHL Import Draft.  He led the Broncos to a pair of victories over WHL East Division opponents this past weekend downing the Saskatoon Blades on Friday, October 5, 10-1, and then defeated the Regina Pats on Saturday, October 6, 2-1.
