LAURIKAINEN VAUGHN CHL GOALIE OF THE WEEK

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Eetu Laurikainen of the Swift Current Broncos is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending October 7 with a 2-0-0-0 record including a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .973.

Laurikainen made 71 saves in two games and backstopped the Broncos to a pair of wins over East Division opponents including the Saskatoon Blades where he was named third star of the 10-1 win on Friday stopping 46 shots.  One night later he picked up first star honours in a tight 2-1 win over the Regina Pats where he made 25 saves including 12 in the third period to preserve the win.

Laurikainen, a 19-year-old from Jyvaskyla, Finland, is playing in his first WHL season with the Broncos after being selected 20th overall in the 2012 CHL Import Draft.

Also considered for the award this week was Christopher Festarini of the Niagara IceDogs who won two games including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .966.  In the QMJHL, Francis Desrosiers of the Chicoutimi Sagueneens went 1-2-0-0 with a shutout victory recording a goals-against-average of 1.35 and save percentage of .959.
