Huskies’ Jean-Sébastien Dea Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Jean-Sébastien Dea of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending September 30 after recording eight points in three games scoring six goals and two assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-2.

Dea led the Huskies to three straight road wins beginning last Wednesday when he produced his second hat-trick of the season including two shorthanded markers while adding an assist as first star of a 9-2 win over the Sherbrooke Phoenix.  Dea then put together a three-point night Friday in a 4-2 win over the Drummondville Voltigeurs scoring twice with an assist as third star of the game before ending his week Saturday with a goal in the Huskies 5-4 shootout win over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.

Dea, an 18-year-old from La Prairie, QC, is playing in his second QMJHL season with the Huskies and currently leads the league in scoring with 13 points through five contests registering a league-high nine goals along with four assists.  Originally selected by the Huskies in the third round of the 2011 QMJHL Entry Draft, Dea is eligible for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

Fellow 2013 NHL Entry Draft prospects Hunter Shinkaruk of the Medicine Hat Tigers and Ryan Kujawinski of the Kingston Frontenacs were also considered for the award this week.  Shinkaruk helped the Tigers win a pair of games scoring a goal and five assists for six points, while Kujawinski kept the Frontenacs undefeated on the season scoring two goals and three assists for five points in two games.
