FREEMAN TO COLGATE

Press Release

Hooksett, NH Derek Freeman of the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs will be attending Colgate University for the fall of 2013. He becomes the first Monarchs player to commit to a Division I school under the new regime in Monarchs country, completing a hat trick of DI committed players are Casey Shea (U-Mass Lowell) and Alex Holland (Merrimack). Freeman is in his first season with the Monarchs. Last year he played for the Northern Cyclones in the Atlantic Junior Hockey League.
Derek is a 6’0”, 200 pound left-shot winger who is known for his physical play, play making ability and intensity.
“Freeman is one of the hardest working players in our locker room,” stated GM/Head Coach Ryan Frew. “Derek is one of those players that makes everyone around him better. He came here to get a Division I opportunity and I am so proud of him for obtaining that goal. He truly deserves the great future that he has ahead of him, both on the ice and in the classroom.”
Derek had this to say, “I love playing for the Monarchs...we have a great team talent wise and overall just a great group of guys. Playing for Coach Frew and Coach Golden is great because they expect a lot out of everyone and they have helped me realize and reach my dream. I'm thrilled to attend Colgate next year and can't wait to put on that jersey and help them win a National title.”
Coach Frew also added, “It was nice to get this commitment under our belt. Colgate is such a good school and to be able to match that type of education, with athletics for one of our players is something that I take a lot of pride in and at the end of the day we feel really good about.”
Freeman is the son of Dave and Michelle Freeman of Newburyport, MA.
