Vees rookie Mario Lucia is BCHL Player of the Week

Penticton Vees forward Mario Lucia has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending April 1, the league announced Monday.

Though it’s his rookie season, Lucia has been stellar for the Vees in the playoffs, leading the BCHL with 13 points. In Game 1 of the Interior Conference Finals Lucia earned 1st Star honours with a hat trick, helping the Vees post an impressive 5-0 win over the Merritt Centennials. In Game 3 Lucia was 1st Star again, earning two assists in the Vees 3-2 win. His POW play gives him seven points in four games and has Penticton in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 series lead on Merritt.

Honourable mentions this week go to Powell River Kings goaltender Sean Maguire (95.8SV%, 1.51 GAA, 1st Star), Penticton Vees forward Travis St. Denis (two goals, three assists), Penticton Vees forward Wade Murphy (two goals, four assists, 2nd Star), and Powell River Kings forward Cohen Adair (two goals, two assists, 3rd Star).
