Steelers' Heide awarded IBAM Scholarship

The inaugural Insurance Brokers Association of Manitoba (IBAM) scholarship has been awarded to Dylan Heide of the Selkirk Steelers.

The IBAM Scholarship provides $2,000 towards post-secondary education.

“IBAM is committed to making a positive impact in our community,” said IBAM Chief Executive Officer, David Schioler. “The scholarship ensures that a young man will be able to pursue his post-secondary educational goals. Dylan was selected for his community involvement and citizenship, in addition to his excellence on the ice.”

Heide, 20, says he plans to attend university next fall and study business. “I’m honoured to be the first winner of the IBAM Scholarship,” said Heide, who hails from Winnipeg. “This funding will certainly assist me as I pursue my schooling.”

Heide, a four-year veteran of the Steelers, was a key contributor both on and off the ice. In 62 games this past season the talented defenseman recorded 61 points (20 goals-41 assists). Away from the rink, Heide was active within the community of Selkirk.

He delivered Christmas Cheer Board hampers throughout Selkirk, volunteered at the Selkirk Community Bingo, assisted children at Learn to Skate Programs and worked as an on-ice instructor at various hockey skill development camps.

“Dylan Heide epitomizes what the MJHL is all about,” said MJHL Commissioner Kim Davis. “He is a committed student-athlete and community volunteer. Our league promotes quality on the ice, combined with education. Thanks to IBAM for its support and promotion of our league.”
