Sharks Sign Defenseman Konrad Abeltshauser

Press Release

SAN JOSE, California - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has signed unrestricted free agent forward Konrad Abeltshauser to an entry-level contract. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Abeltshauser, 19, is currently playing in his third season for the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The Bad Tolz, Germany native finished the 2011-12 regular season tied for ninth among all QMJHL defensemen with 44 points (8-36=44) and earned a team-best plus-17 rating.

In the 2012 QMJHL playoffs, Abeltshauser has two power play goals, four assists, eight penalty minutes and a plus-two rating in six games. Halifax is currently trailing the Quebec Remparts, 3-1, in the quarterfinals after sweeping Moncton in the opening round.

The 6-5, 220-pound blue-liner also represented his country in six games at the 2011 World Juniors and earlier this year helped Germany qualify for the 2013 World Juniors in Ufa, Russia.

Abeltshauser was originally selected by San Jose in the sixth round (163rd overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
