Marsh to Penn State

NEWARK, NJ – The New Jersey Rockets are pleased to announce that MJHL Rookie of the Year, forward Alec Marsh (’95 birth year/Bridgewater, NJ) has committed to Penn State University for 2015. The Nittany Lions, which announced in 2010 that they will begin play in the Division I ranks with the 2012-2013 season in a brand-new 88 million dollar facility and will be participating in the newly established Big Ten Hockey League along with Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State and Wisconsin.

Marsh, the first member of the MJHL to commit to Penn State since their Division I transition, tied for the league in scoring with 79 points in 35 games and has 126 points in 77 games over the entire 2011-2012 season. The Bridgewater, New Jersey native was chosen as one of the MJHL Young Guns for their inaugural game held during All-Star weekend. Marsh also led the Rockets with 9 game-winning goals in addition to an outstanding +67 rating.

Alec Marsh“This was the reward for all of the work Alec put in for the season,” commented New Jersey Rockets Head Coach and Director of Player Development Bob Thornton. “From the first game this year, Alec has been an integral part of the Rockets offense and we expect big things from Alec at Penn State.”

“I’m excited to be a part of a new program,” said Marsh. “This has been a great year for both myself and the team and I hope that it continues. I’d like to thank the entire Rockets organization for getting to this point in my career. I’m excited to be a Nittany Lion.”

Marsh and the Rockets are finishing up play in the 2012 Tier III Junior Hockey Nationals in Rochester, Minnesota and will be holding tryouts on April 3, 4 and 5. “The timing of this announcement couldn’t be better,” said Thornton. “The Rockets continually promote players to the next level of their career and we hope all of the players coming to tryouts recognize that. If you work hard and commit to the things we teach and promote, like Alex, great things happen. We are excited for Alec and proud to announce his commitment.”
