Former Wild, Top Prospects player Rumble makes DI commitment

Press Release

Former Wenatchee Wild defenseman Chris Rumble has received a full scholarship to attend Division I Canisius College.

Rumble spent two seasons on the Wild blue line (2009-10, 2010-11). He tallied 19 points (3G, 16A) and was plus-24 in 42 games in 2009-10. He improved in his second season with the team when he recorded 31 points (7G, 24A) and was plus-8 in 46 games.

Rumble competed in 12 playoff games with the Wild, including three Robertson Cup Championship Tournament contests in 2010 at the Town Toyota Center in Wenatchee. Rumble was selected for two Top Prospects Tournaments, including the NAHL’s second tournament in 2010, where his three points helped Team West win the title.

“We are very excited that Chris has obtained a scholarship to Canisius,” said Wild assistant coach Chris Clark. “He worked very hard over his two years with the Wild to get to the next level, and he will now get that opportunity. Canisius is not only getting a very good hockey player but a tremendous person.”

The Canisius Golden Griffins are led by Dave Smith, who recently completed his seventh season as head coach. Nineteen Griffins who played for Smith have gone on to sign professional hockey contracts.

“The first thing that led me to Canisius was head coach Dave Smith,” Rumble said. “I have always had a thing about playing for coaches who have played the game before, and he fits the mold perfectly.”

The Golden Griffins went 10-22-4 in 2011-12 and were knocked out of the Atlantic Hockey Association playoffs in the first round by Connecticut.

Rumble wrote and directed “Into the Ice,” a junior hockey documentary of the Wild’s 2010-11 season, which was released in the fall. He spent part of the 2011-12 season working on “Into the Ice II,” his second documentary film featuring the Wild.
