Fighting Saints Forward Commits to Princeton University

Dubuque Fighting Saints forward Ryan Siiro has committed to play collegiate hockey at Princeton University beginning in the fall of 2013.

“It’s very exciting opportunity for me both in terms of education and on the hockey side,” Siiro said. “Education is a big part of what I wanted to base my college decision on, and it made this fit a good one for me. On the ice, I love the coaches and the way that they play hockey.”

The 19-year-old has collected 12 points (6g, 6a) in 48 games for the Saints during his first USHL season. His first goal in the League came in just his fourth game, a 5-1 over Team USA on October 21st. The forward also scored the game-winning goal in the 5-4 victory against Indiana on January 21st. Siiro is a 6-2, 232-pound native of Bloomington, Minnesota was a three-sport athlete in high school, playing quarterback on the football team and pitching on the baseball team.



“I’m really happy for Ryan Siiro,” said Saints head coach Jim Montgomery. “He has made a really significant improvement for us on the ice, and he’s a fantastic young man off the ice. He won the Community Service Award as voted on by his teammates, because he is willing to do whatever it takes to help the team.”

Four other current USHL players will attend Princeton University following their USHL careers – Kyle Rankin of the Sioux Falls Stampede and a trio of Youngstown Phantoms players, forwards Mike Ambrosia and Jonathan Liau along with defenseman Kevin Liss.

Princeton University is a member of the ECAC and had nine USHL alumni on the roster of the prestigious Ivy League school this season; Andrew Ammon (Lincoln Stars), Jack Berger (Des Moines Buccaneers), Matt Farris (Sioux Falls Stampede), Will MacDonald (Indiana Ice), Eric Meland (Lincoln Stars), Alec Rush (Omaha/Lincoln/Sioux Falls/Tri-City), Michael Sdao (Lincoln Stars), Aaron Ave (Omaha Lancers), and Tucker Brockett (Chicago/Tri-City/Lincoln).
