DOYLE NAMED OJHL FAN FAVOURITE!

Press Release

The Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) tonight announced that Andrew Doyle, captain of the Stouffville Spirit, has been named the inaugural recipient of the OJHL Fan Favourite Award.

Andrew Doyle is the heart-and-soul of the Stouffville Spirit. The club’s captain and inspirational leader, he is also one of the “Fan Favourite’s” for his style of play, as well as the leadership qualities that he exudes both on-and-off the ice.

The 6’3”, 197 lbs. native of Richmond Hill, Ontario, has played three seasons in the OJHL, all as a member of the Stouffville Spirit. Doyle has evolved through his three junior seasons, along with many of his current teammates, ultimately reaching the point the find themselves at today, the OJHL Championship Series. This past year, he finished fourth in goal scoring on the Spirit with 17 goals and fifth in overall scoring on the club with 45 points, a consistent threat for the offensive powerhouse.

As an 18-year old rookie in 2009-10, Doyle also finished fifth in scoring on the Spirit, notching 25 points in 44 games played. Last season, on a much deeper squad, he improved his point total to 28 and was part of the club’s surprising run to the OJHL Semi-Final, ultimately falling in six games to the eventual Buckland Cup champion Wellington Dukes.

The OJHL Fan Favourite Award will be awarded annually to the player who is voted through online balloting as the fan’s favourite player. The 2011-12 season marks the first-year the award was contested with balloting running from January 25 to March 25. Close to 27,000 votes were registered with 198 different OJHL players, from all 27 member clubs, being named on ballots.

The award was presented to Andrew Doyle at the 2nd Annual OJHL Award Ceremony prior to game one of the 2012 OJHL Championship Series by one of the Stouffville Spirit’s number one fans, and a member of the Stouffville Clippers PeeWee ‘AE’ club, 11-year old Stouffville resident, Justin Day.

Christian Finch of the Stouffville Spirit has been named runner-up in the Fan Favourite balloting to Doyle.

The 20-year olds credentials are without question this season as he led the entire OJHL in scoring with 104 points, was twice named the Gongshow Gear North-West Conference Player-of-the-Month and was named a 1st Team All-Star, as well as the OJHL Top Scorer and Most Valuable Player.
