Current News Archied News FIGHTING SAINTS SIGN SEAMUS MALONE TO TENDER

Press Release

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Fighting Saints have added yet another piece to their future roster puzzle, signing forward Seamus Malone to the team’s second offseason tender. Malone, a 5’9, 160 pound center, is currently playing for the Chicago Mission’s U16 Team, and has committed to attend the University of Wisconsin starting in the fall of 2015.

In 28 games this season, the Naperville, Illinois, native has scored 13 goals, added 20 assists, and been whistled for 65 penalty minutes for the Mission, which is considered to be one of the top midget hockey programs in the country.

“The acquisition of Seamus continues our philosophy of scouting and adding players who have high hockey sense and a high compete level,” said Fighting Saints Head Coach Jim Montgomery. “We believe that Seamus’ skill and drive will assist him to have success in the future, and help us win hockey games in Dubuque.”

Malone is the second player who the Fighting Saints have tendered this year – the team signed defenseman Keegan Ford to a tender last month. The tender process allows teams to sign players who are eligible for the Futures Draft to the roster prior to the draft process. By tendering Ford and Malone, the Fighting Saints have forfeited their second and third round Futures Draft picks for 2012. In all future seasons, tendering a player will result in a team forgoing its first round pick, and tendering a second player will result in forgoing the team’s second round pick. Because the rule was added at a late date this season, the picks the Fighting Saints will surrender this season are in the second and third rounds, per USHL rule.

Players who have been tendered are required to play in 55% of the team’s games, barring injury. By tendering Malone and Ford, the Fighting Saints have used their allotment of tenders – the next wave of additions to the Dubuque roster will come with the USHL Futures Draft on May 1 and the USHL Entry Draft on May 22.

The Fighting Saints will place twice at home this weekend to close out the regular season, hosting the Chicago Steel on Friday and the Muskegon Lumberjacks on Saturday. Tickets are available by phone at (563) 583-6880 and in person at the Mystique Community Ice Center from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on game nights up until the start of the second period. Tickets are available 24 hours a day online at DubuqueFightingSaints.com.
