Canucks' Matyas signs with the University of Alaska Anchorage

The Calgary Canucks are proud to announce that Michael Matyas has committed to attend the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Matyas, the 19 year old, 6'3" goalie, played the in the AJHL for 3 years; two season with the Okotoks Oilers and the 2011/2012 season with the Calgary Canucks. Matyas had an impressive 3.03 goals against average over his 3 year AJHL career. Matyas was a leader in the dressing room and was great asset in the net for the Canucks.

Michael's hard work on and off the ice has paid off with the opportunity to play for the NCAA Alaska Anchorage Seawolves. The University of Alaska Anchorage, located in the heart of Alaska's largest city, is the state's largest post-secondary institution. The University offers many career pathway programs featuring associate's, baccalaureate and master's degrees, as well as vocational and professional certificates in more than 150 major study areas, including arts, sciences, business, education, human services and health sciences.

"Matyas played big part in leading the Canucks to the AJHL South Division Semi-Finals this year and will be a great addition to the Seawolves' hockey team. Congratulations to Michael and his family for the fantastic opportunity he has earned. We wish Michael all the best in his academic and hockey endeavors."
