BROSSOIT VAUGHN CHL GOALIE OF THE WEEK

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that for the second straight week Laurent Brossoit of the Edmonton Oil Kings is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the playoff week ending April 22 after posting a 2-0-0-0 record with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .975.
Brossoit made 77 saves in the opening two games of the WHL’s Eastern Conference Finals helping the Oil Kings take an early 2-0 series lead against the Moose Jaw Warriors.  In Game 1 of the series on Friday he made 29 saves as part of the 6-1 victory, then stopped a season-high and playoff career-high 48 shots on Sunday as first star of the 6-1 victory over the Warriors in Game 2 of the series.

Brossoit, a 19-year-old from Surrey, BC, is playing in his second full WHL season with the Oil Kings.  A sixth round pick of the Calgary Flames in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Brossoit has now won 19 straight games including 10 straight playoff victories.  He finished the regular season with a 42-13-2-3 record including three shutouts with a 2.47 goals-against-average and a .914 save percentage and currently has a 1.40 goals-against-average and .950 save percentage in 10 playoff games.

Also considered for the award this week was Petr Mrazek of the Ottawa 67’s who made 121 saves in three games winning two of his decisions with a goals-against-average of 2.88 and save percentage of .931.  In the QMJHL, Mathieu Corbeil of the Saint John Sea Dogs won both of his starts against the Chicoutimi Sagueneens posting a goals-against-average of 1.50 and save percentage of .952.
