Press Release

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Tyler Toffoli of the Ottawa 67’s is the OHL Player of the Week for the playoff week ending April 8 after scoring four goals in three games.

Toffoli began the week scoring two goals last Monday night as the game’s first star lifting the 67’s to a 2-1 series-clinching win over the Belleville Bulls in Game 6 of first round Eastern Conference playoff action. On Friday night against the Barrie Colts in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals, Toffoli opened the scoring with his seventh goal of the playoffs pacing the 67’s to a 5-1 win. Toffoli’s eighth goal of the playoffs came in Game 2 against the Colts on Sunday afternoon tying the score midway through the third period to force overtime where the Colts would prevail with a 3-2 decision.

Toffoli, a 19-year-old from Scarborough, ON, is playing in his fourth OHL season with the 67’s and has 11 points in eight playoff games. The Los Angeles Kings prospect finished the season second in league scoring with 100 points in 65 games including 52 goals to become the first player since fellow 67’s forward Corey Locke in 2003-04 to record back-to-back 50-goal seasons.

Scheifele scored two goals and three assists for five points in three games, while Watson had three goals and one assist for four points in two games. In goal, John Gibson of the Kitchener Rangers went 1-1 earning a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .976 in two games.
