Selkirk Steelers’ Laye named MJHL Manitoba Pork Peak Performer of Month

Press Release

Due to his outstanding community involvement, Selkirk Steelers’ Evan Laye has been named the Manitoba Pork Peak Performer for February.

A product of the Selkirk minor hockey system, whose family roots run deep in the community, Laye has demonstrated a tireless work ethic in making a positive difference.

“His community involvement is outstanding,” MJHL Commissioner Kim Davis said of Laye’s selection for Manitoba Pork Peak Performer. “Evan participated in workshops as part of the Lockport Children's Festival. He organized activities for children that embrace Aboriginal culture as part of Selkirk Aboriginal Day.”

Laye, 20, is never one to shy away from a challenge. His go-forward attitude on the ice carries over off the ice. He has volunteered with the Nova House Women's Shelter in addition to being a guest reader for Lord Selkirk School Division.

“Evan regularly assists children with hockey skill development as well,” said Davis. “The MJHL is proud of the contribution Evan makes to his Community.”
