Calgary Flames Recall Sven Bartschi

Press Release

The Calgary Flames have recalled Sven Bartschi on an emergency basis in preparation for their game Friday against the Winnipeg Jets. As a result, Bartschi will not suit up for the Winterhawks in tonight’s game in Kamloops or Friday’s game in Everett.

Bartschi was Calgary’s first round pick, 13th overall, in last year’s NHL Entry Draft, and played three preseason games for the Flames, picking up an assist.

“Sven has had a sensational season, and everyone with the Winterhawks is excited for the opportunity he’ll have to play in an NHL playoff race with the Calgary Flames,” said Portland Winterhawks General Manager & Head Coach Mike Johnston.

Bartschi is leading the WHL with a scoring average of 2.0 points per game, as he’s totaled 33 goals and 61 assists for 94 points in just 47 games this season. His 94 points is second on the team and ninth in the league. On Monday he was named the WHL’s Player of the Week after posting 10 points in four games, including four goals on Saturday against Seattle. It was Bartschi’s second Player of the Week Award this season. He has also represented his native Switzerland at the last two World Junior Championships.
