Tigers’ Tyler Bunz Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Tyler Bunz of the Medicine Hat Tigers is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending October 30 after posting a 2-0-0-0 record including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .966.

Bunz recorded his second shutout of the season on Saturday night making 30 saves to blank the Swift Current Broncos 5-0 and was named third star of the contest.  His week also included a 27-save performance last Wednesday night as part of a 4-2 win over the Portland Winterhawks.  The Tigers are now ranked second in the WHL’s Eastern Conference with 22 points.

Bunz, a 19-year-old from St. Albert, Alberta, is playing in his fourth full WHL season with the Tigers.  The Edmonton Oilers prospect selected in the fifth round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft will also compete in the SUBWAY Super Series for Team WHL.  So far this season he has a 10-4-0-0 record with a goals-against-average of 2.35 and save percentage of .930.

Also considered for the award this week was Brandon Maxwell of the Sarnia Sting who posted a 2-0-0-1 record with a goals-against-average of 1.62 and save percentage of .949.  In the QMJHL, François Lacerte of the Gatineau Olympiques won two games including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 0.50 and save percentage of .977.
