Colantone Commits to UMass-Lowell River Hawks

PRINCE GEORGE, BC – The Prince George Spruce Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) would like to announce the NCAA Division I scholarship commitment of Michael Colantone with the University of Massachusetts-Lowell beginning with the 2012-13 season. The UMass-Lowell River Hawks mens hockey team plays out of the Hockey East Association.

"We acquired Michael (Colantone) early in the season to come in and complement our scoring," said Spruce Kings General Manager, Mike Hawes. "He has done everything we expected and has impressed enough to receive this great opportunity at a great school in UMass-Lowell. He's a quality person and is very deserving of this. We are extremely excited as an organization that we could help Michael achieve his goal of playing NCAA Division I hockey."

In 22 games with the Prince George Spruce Kings, Colantone has 11 goals including 3 game winners and 22 assists for an average of 1.5 points per game. Colantone was acquired early in the season through a trade with the Victoria Grizzlies where he had a total of 37 points (13 goals 24 assists) in 59 games.

Michael Colantone will become the first Spruce Kings alumni to attend the University of Massachusetts-Lowell joining a few other BCHL alumni. UMass-Lowell alumni include some NHL notables such as Craig MacTavish and Dwayne Roloson.

UMass-Lowell has an enrollment of over 15,000 students offering bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in engineering, education, fine arts, health and environment, humanities, liberal arts, management, sciences and social sciences.
