Rangers Ink Spott to Contract Extension

Press Release

Kitchener, On: Kitchener Rangers, Chief Operating Officer, Steve Bienkowski announced that the hockey club and Head Coach and General Manager, Steve Spott have agreed to a contract extension through the 2017-18 season.

“Discussions between our Executive Committee and myself to develop a framework of an agreement were completed during the winter. These were followed by some concept discussions with Steve. Once the Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection and Canadian Hockey League Import Draft was behind us, a final agreement was quickly achieved,” stated Bienkowski.

“Steve and his family have embraced our community, understand its expectations and demands and we are excited they made a further commitment to the Kitchener Rangers organization.”

Spott first joined the Rangers in 2001 as its Associate Coach and Assistant General Manager before becoming its Head Coach and General Manager prior to the 2008-09 season.

“I have watched behind the scenes during the past 10 years and witnessed the direct contributions Steve has made developing a stable and respected environment that both identifies and more importantly attracts and develops quality hockey players for our fans to watch as members of the Kitchener Rangers. Our players’ success in the recent National Hockey League drafts and our organizations attractiveness to future elite players are clear examples of the hard work and effort that Steve and his staff have demonstrated and will continue to benefit our organization as we move forward.”

“I am excited to have the opportunity to remain with the Rangers organization. Their confidence in my abilities to continue to grow our hockey program is gratifying and I know both myself and our entire hockey staff are excited to continue to be part of a successful program," stated Steve Spott.
