Warriors’ Quinton Howden Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Florida Panthers prospect Quinton Howden of the Moose Jaw Warriors is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending February 13. Howden scored five goals with four assists for nine points in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-5.

Howden opened the week with the best offensive game of his career recording his first WHL hat-trick and five-point game with two assists despite a 6-5 overtime loss to the Saskatoon Blades as second star of the contest. Howden would lead the Warriors to victory on Friday night scoring a goal and two assists as first star of a 5-4 shootout win over the Edmonton Oil Kings. The Blades would get the best of the Warriors again on Saturday with Howden chipping in a goal despite the 5-3 loss.

Howden, a 19-year-old from Oak Bank, MB, is playing in his third full WHL season with the Warriors. Selected in the first round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, 25th overall by the Florida Panthers, Howden has 33 goals and 29 assists for 62 points in 45 games played. He also competed as a member of Canada’s National Junior Team at the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championship in Buffalo, New York.

Joël Champagne of the Quebec Remparts was also considered after scoring two goals and four assists for six points in two games. In the OHL, Jason Akeson of the Kitchener Rangers had 10 points in four games including three goals and seven assists.
