Banner Portage Terriers' Pattyn RBC Player of Month

Portage Terriers’ veteran Stephane Pattyn has been named the RBC Player of the Month for January.

The Ste. Anne native, who leads the Terriers’ point’s race, collected 15 points (5-10) during the month of January. After 50 games the 20-year-old has 17 goals and 51 points.

Pattyn and his Terrier teammates sit atop the Sher-Wood Division with 31 wins and 68 points after 50 games. Over their last 10 games, Terriers have a 6-3-0-1 record.

The runners up are forward Kyle Johnson, 20, of the Dauphin Kings and forward Paul Van de Velde, 19, of the Waywayseecappo Wolverines.

Sher-wood Hockey Defenceman of the Month

Dauphin Kings’ towering defenceman Brenden Kotyk has the distinction of winning this award for January. The Kings’ ‘Tower of Power’ is an imposing presence on the blueline, standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 215 pounds. In addition to his strong defensive play the 19-year-old has an offensive touch, reflected in 12 points (4-8) in 13 games in January.

The runners up are 20 year old Dale Warkentin of the OCN Blizzard and 18 year old Kyle Rous of the Steinbach Pistons.

Husky Energy Rookie of the Month

The future of the Steinbach Pistons is a bright one thanks in large part to the play of rookie forward Russell Trudeau. The 17-year-old from Landmark recorded 15 points (8-7) for the Pistons last month.

The product of the Eastman Selects hockey program sits third in Pistons’ scoring with 22 goals and 41 points.

The runners up are 18 year old forward Bryn Chyzyk of the Dauphin Kings and 17 year old forward Shane Gingera of the Winnipeg Saints.

MJHL Goaltender of the Month

Veteran Dauphin King goaltender Brett Willows had an outstanding January, reflected in a stellar record of 9-2.

The 20-year-old has an overall record of 23-15 in 39 games played. He owns a 3.15 GAA and .910 save percentage.

The runners up are 20 year old Ryan Benitez of the Waywayseecappo Wolverines and 19 year old Matt Krahn of the OCN Blizzard.
