Adam Johnson Awarded Enerflex Scholarship

Press Release

The Alberta Junior Hockey League, in conjunction with Enerflex Systems Income Fund, have selected Adam Johnson of the Fort McMurray Oil Barons as the recipient of the 2011 Enerflex AJHL Scholarship. AJHL President Craig T. Cripps presented Johnson with the award prior to the opening game of the 2011 AJHL Playoff Series between the Fort McMurray Oil Barons and St. Albert Steel on Friday.

As a member of the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, Adam Johnson is extremely committed to the 'team' philosophy. "His dedication to the team, both on and off the ice, is a coach's dream," stated Oil Barons Coach Tom Keca. "His work ethic is contagious and he is respected not only by his teammates, but by his opponents as well." Adam is committed in his quest to play hockey at a higher level and further his education.

Adam was described by his High School Principal as a top student and exemplary role model. "He achieved honours in academics, but it was his character that made him stand out from the rest of the students," stated Brian Horbay, Principal of Hay Lakes School.

Adam Johnson is a third year veteran of the Alberta Junior Hockey League and Captain of the Oil Barons. The 20 year old forward from Hay Lakes, Alberta has played in 155 regular season games for the Oil Barons and averaged a point per game over the past two seasons. Johnson was a finalist for the 2011 AJHL Most Dedicated Player Award and led the Oil Barons in scoring.

"My experience in the AJHL will be very useful in my life after hockey," said Adam Johnson. I feel like my maturity level has increased greatly from the time I arrived, allowing me to be a better person as I move on in life. I have learned leadership and team skills that are so valuable in life whether it be in hockey or my career".

The $1,500 scholarship is awarded to the player deemed most deserving among the sixteen applicants (one per AJHL team). Applicants were required to submit an essay describing what they have learned from playing hockey and how they can apply this in their lives after hockey. A Selection Committee then determines the recipient based on the required essay, academic performance, and the quality of reference letters from the applicant's coaches and educators.

The Alberta Junior Hockey League is proud to partner with Enerflex Systems Income Fund as its Championship Sponsor. The AJHL's sixteen member teams battle for the honour to hoist the Enerflex Cup as AJHL Champion.
