Wildcats sign new deal with City of Moncton

MONCTON, Wednesday, June 30, 2010 – The City of Moncton and the Moncton Wildcats have reached a tentative agreement that will allow both parties to continue to grow and be successful. The Wildcats and Moncton City Council have both worked hard to finalize this new agreement. This renewed partnership lays the groundwork for the City and the Wildcats to be successful in Moncton for many years to come.

"From the beginning, we have strived to build a winning team year after year. This new agreement will allow us to continue our quest to bring home the MasterCard Memorial Cup in the years to come. The entire organization is committed to this partnership and will continue to offer great entertainment value to the Greater Moncton community," said team President Robert K. Irving.

"We are very happy to have reached an agreement which is beneficial to the City of Moncton and which keeps the Wildcats here to stay," said Moncton Mayor George LeBlanc. "I have tremendous respect for Robert Irving and the Wildcats. We have the best-run franchise in the QMJHL, and we are very proud of our team."

The Moncton Wildcats have signed a 3-year deal, which will see them continue to play at the Moncton Coliseum and a 15-year memorandum of understanding (MOU) relating to a proposed new facility. Mr. Irving continued: "Our focus is on delivering a winning team that our fans and the greater community of Moncton can be rightfully proud. The Wildcats take very seriously our commitment to being great ambassadors for Moncton."

"The new deal ensures that we will be cheering for the Wildcats for many years," added Mayor LeBlanc. "And, a 15-year MOU for a new downtown sports and entertainment complex is an important and fundamental step forward towards developing a new downtown facility and making our downtown more prosperous and vibrant."

The $5M economic spin-off from the 2006 Memorial Cup is just one example of the value delivered by a team that wins. Over the last 14 seasons, our great group of dedicated fans and supporters made the City of Moncton a great hockey town.

"Today, we move forward to focus on another winning season. This upcoming 15th anniversary season will be a celebration of the team’s accomplishments and we will continue to provide exciting hockey action that no one will want to miss," added the team President Robert K. Irving.
