Petes Sign Top Two Picks

Peterborough Petes General Manager David Reid announced today that the team has signed defenceman Slater Koekkoek and defenceman Connor Boland.

Koekkoek, 16, was the Petes first round (7th overall) draft pick in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection. The 6'2", 190lbs native of Mountain Ontario recorded 23 goals and 57 points is 64 games last season with the Notre Dame Hounds. The Hounds won the Telus Cup (National Midget Championship) and Slater was named Tournament MVP and Top Defenceman.

Boland, 15, was the Petes second round (28th overall) draft pick in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection. Connor recorded 8 goals, 30 points and 102 penalty minutes in 74 games with the Whitby Wildcats last season. The 6'2", 170lbs native of Whitby, Ontario is the son of Toronto Marlboros Alumni Sean Boland who played 3 seasons in the OHL from 1985-88.

"We are very pleased as an organization to commit to these two young men" says Petes General Manager David Reid. "Both Slater and Connor showed tremendous ability at our Mini Camp in May and we look forward to seeing them in action this fall as members of the Peterborough Petes."

Slater and Connor will continue their education as student athletes at Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School in Peterborough. The Pair will also attend the Team Ontario Under 17 Final Evaluation Camp in Oshawa from July 6th-10th. Petes 3rd round pick Joey Sullivan and 13th round pick Zach Avolio will also attend the camp.
